thedisasterlife:

marco zanini, the resurrector of the house of schiaparelli after a 60 year absence, said that elsa schiaparelli was “punk before punk and pop art before it happened” and he is so right. steeped in surrealist and dada touches, schiap gave us trompe l’oeil stitched dresses, the first clothes with exposed zippers, and my personal favorite: a clear plastic bib necklace overlaid with jeweled insects giving the wearer the appearance that they are crawling with very expensive beetles. in the fall 2014 couture line, zanini brings us schiap at her best with jackets bearing exaggerated shoulders, ostrich feathers dyed in shocking colors, and elaborate embroidery of moths, squirrels, and pierced bleeding hearts studding the gowns. punk’s not dead, and apparently, neither is the house of schiaparelli.
